As everybody desires to be a celebrity these days and looking good has become influential in obtaining a good job, teeth whitening has become a popular fad. In order to obtain whiter teeth, some people have turned to using whitening products.

Bleaching is far cheaper than other means of whitening and can be done at home with cheap over-the-counter products or even home-made treatments. Without whitening of some kind everyone’s teeth would discolour over time.

The worst items in common use that are responsible for teeth discolouration are cigarettes, coffee, tea and red wine. Brushing will get rid of some staining, but is not really completely effective unless the tooth paste is particularly abrasive, which is not a good idea because that will ultimately remove the enamel which does such a good job of protecting our teeth from infection and cavities.

There are lots of different teeth whitening systems on the market and some have advantages over others. Some are very strong and should only be applied under supervision. In other cases the dentist will need to apply some sort of protective coating to your gums so that they are not damaged by the chemicals in the gel.

The whitening agent is then applied to the teeth by means of a tray. You are in essence dipping your teeth into a bath of bleach which you carry about in your mouth. Therefore the tray has to fit your mouth, if it is going to be comfortable. There are two types of trays: the standard, one size fits all and the custom-made, which is moulded to fit your mouth by a dentist.

Sometimes these trays are used solely in the dental surgery and others are meant to be taken home for use there. The active component in the whitening gels is usually either carbamide peroxide or hydrogen peroxide. This kind of course of treatment normally takes three to four weeks.

There is also a whitening gel that you paint onto your teeth before you go to bed and leave on all night while you sleep. This gel should not be used more than once a week, but the results are quite good.

Another choice is so-called laser whitening. It is essentially a misnomer because the strong light used to ‘activate’ the whitening gel is not a laser at all. It is only named that because it sounds more hi-tech than ’strong light’. Hi-tech can be sold for more money than low-tech. In fact, many people are turning away from laser whitening, because it is actually unnecessary to have to ‘activate’ the product with light. It is only intended to prevent people from using the gel at home.

This form of treatment is the fastest because the products used are more highly concentrated than those sold for home use. This is reasonable, because people could hurt themselves at home with powerful products if they have not been trained to use them.

The results of a decent professional teeth bleaching procedure should last for about three years, whereas home treatments are on-going – you have to bleach every week in order to preserve the whiteness. However, all teeth whitening systems must ultimately fail, unless you stop smoking or and drinking red wine, coffee and strong black tea.

Cosmetic Dentistry Option Varieties

July 6th, 2010 Michael Burns No comments

Everybody wants to look good in every aspect of themselves. And one important aspect of looking good is how you smile. The way you smile often is responsible in defining what sort of first impression you leave to someone. The way you smile tells a lot of who you are and possibly it defines as well how people would interpret you. Hence, more and more people are becoming more encouraged to improve their smile aesthetically.

But how do you exactly take care of your smile aesthetically?

Thus, the rise of cosmetic dentistry. Cosmetic dentistry deals mainly in giving a person with the sweetest, good-looking smile he or she could possibly have. By altering or improving one or more aspects in your oral area, you are given a new look that is pleasing for others to see. This contributes a lot with how you see yourself through the eyes of other people.

There are different options to go by in cosmetic dentistry. Below are some of the listed popular treatments that most people would prefer to have.

1. Teeth Whitening – is perhaps one of the most chosen options in cosmetic dentistry. The usual problem with most people is tarred teeth. Often due to dental negligence, i.e. not brushing the teeth regularly or lack of dental clinic routine or the excessive exposure to vices such as cigarette smoking and alcoholism, the teeth becomes marred with tar and turns yellowish. This will do a lot in damaging your smile. The process is simply bleaching your teeth. There are a lot of product options available in the market that packages the same result. But it is always better to go by with clinically supervised products or procedures to ensure good quality outcome.

2. Reshaping – is a process of altering the physical structure of your teeth. This is recommended usually to people with crooked or any irregularly shaped teeth. Either a ceramic mould is applied to the teeth or a portion of it is sculpted or trimmed in order to have that preferred look that will give you a better looking smile.

3. Dental implants -is the most vied option for middle-aged to older people, whom have apparently lost a lot of teeth already. When you permanently lose a tooth, a portion of your face collapses along with the dent. If you want to look fluffy back again, dental implants is the thing to go.

4. Inlays/Onlays – are the use of composite materials to reshape broken teeth. This is different from the regular dental fillings which are moulded and shaped on during the dental appointment. Inlays or onlays are prefabbed in laboratories before fitted and adhesively bonded to the patient’s teeth.

5. Full Mouth Reconstruction – In order to aesthetically improve your smile you would have to have your dentist rectify functional problems with your bite, muscle, teeth, jaw or bone structure to fully develop a better facial construct. Basically, it applies changes to the aspects of your oral area that needs changing.

6. Dental Bonding -is also another process of reinstating the original of the teeth or improving it. It still makes use of a specialize dental mould to bridge gaps or spaces between teeth, or cracks within it.

A Review Of BreathRX

July 1st, 2010 Hal Missant No comments

There’s a good chance that you’ve seen BreathRX when browsing the dental section of your local pharmacy. I’d personally been wondering about it for a while, until one day I was curious enough to see how effective it’d actually be.

I always saw BreathRX as a bit pricey and was reluctant to try it out. One day, frustrated with the fact that it seemed like my most recent toothpaste/mouthwash combo wasn’t doing enough, I decided to buy some BreathRX.

BreathRX works because of some unique technology that they claim both kills the bad breath bacteria, and then neutralizes the mouth. The combination of some antibacterial oils (these kill the germs on your tongue that are responsible for bad breath) and some zinc, which balances out the state of the mouth, works effectively to kill bad breath, according to the company.

Depending on how extensive you’d like to be with respect to your fight against bad breath, there are a number of different BreathRX products that you may be able to purchase. On a basic level, there’s toothpaste and mouthwash, but there are also tongue scrapers, tongue sprays, gum balls, mints, and more.

I don’t know what you normally use in your fight against bad breath, but there’s a good chance that BreathRX will have all of the things you normally use. If you’re a little hesitant to spend too much at once, you might want to look into a starter kit, many of which are sold online. These include a bunch of different things in one package.

All that I can say is I haven’t bought any other brand since making the switch to the BreathRX system. All I use is the toothpaste and the mouthwash as I find this more than enough, but I’ve read online that the other products do their jobs as well. It’s all a matter of what you need.

Instead of buying this at your local pharmacy, I’d probably look for a good deal online. There are tons of them out there, and you’ll get a lot more for your money than you will in local stores.

Whether you should choose to use this product or not, I wish you luck. BreathRX definitely gets my highest marks.

Teeth Whitening Products: A Review

June 10th, 2010 Owen Jones No comments

Many people now regard teeth whitening products as one of life’s necessities, it has become so imperative to them to have white teeth. There has been a massive boost to the sales of teeth whitening products because people feel that they have to have whiter teeth for their self-confidence or their jobs.

There are basically two ways of getting whiter teeth: professional or home whitening.

Professional Whitening: this necessitates a trip to the dentist or other dental hygienist. Most dental experts endorse only one product, so it is better to pick the product rather than the dentist, if you have a preference for one whitening system over another.

A professional teeth whitening session will begin with an inspection of your teeth, as any remedial work will have to be carried out first. Then the plaque will be scraped off and your teeth will be polished. At this juncture, you and your dentist will be able to decide how much whiter your teeth should be. The colour of your teeth will be compared to a chart and the shade will be noted for comparison later. They may even take a photograph.

The actual teeth whitening session usually lasts an hour, during which you can watch TV or listen to music. The outcome will be visible after the hour. The cost is very much greater than any other form of teeth whitening

Home or DIY Whitening: there are dozens of home teeth whitening products on the market which are intended for use at home without professional guidance. Because of this, DIY products tend to be weaker than professional ones and so they take longer to achieve the same result.

DIY whitening is an on-going process, but you will have to read the instructions that come with the product to find out what you have to do. As a rule, you may have to whiten your teeth for one week a month.

There are also conventional home remedies such as bicarbonate of soda and lemon juice, which has very similar results, but you would have to use them once or twice every week to maintain your teeths’ colouration.

When purchasing products for home use, be sure to look at the contents. If you do not know what the names mean, look them up on the Internet before buying. Linked with the ingredients is the concentration of those ingredients. For example, a product label may state than hydrogen peroxide makes up 60% of the product. You could look up hydrogen peroxide and see if there are any warnings about using concentrations over 50%.

If you go for a professional treatment session, take note of how well you are treated. Are you satisfied? Did they ring you up a few days later to see if there were any complications? If you are not completely satisfied, maybe you should try home remedies next time

If you use a DIY product, do they have a good website? Does it tell you a lot bout the product’s contents? Are the directions complete and simple to follow? Is there a helpline? Again, if you feel uneasy for any reason, try another product.

Do They Really Use Lasers In Teeth Whitening?

June 8th, 2010 Owen Jones No comments

Teeth whitening is a cosmetic dental procedure that is common among top-flight professionals and those who have undergone tooth discolouration due to smoking, drinking red wine, tea or coffee, aging, or taking particular medications.

Teeth whitening remedies have come on a lot over the last five years and the price has come down significantly for home use. Whitening is now very popular among people of all ages, but especially among people with a high public profile or those who want appear good-looking.

There are quite a few systems for whitening your teeth. Some you can apply at home, but others have to be carried out in a dentist’s surgery. This latter type often fall into the laser therapy category. However, laser teeth whitening is actually a misnomer, because the bright light that is used to activate the tooth whitening gel is not a laser. In fact, there are whitening gels of the strength that only dentists can use that work just as well without using a ‘laser’.

Many people believe that manufacturers of the gels that had to be activated by a ‘laser’, said that so that they could take advantage of the buzz word ‘laser’ and charge more. On the whole, the claims relied on the ignorance of the client. Nowadays, teeth whitening gels are triggered by spittle or air. So, be wary if your dentist mentions the word ‘laser’ or at least ask about whether it really is a laser that they are using..

The fact is though, that treatments that are available to dentists are not available to the general public. The professional gels work a lot faster and seem to last longer. But then so they should at $500-$2,000 a session. The types of discolouration that are best treated by professional whitening techniques are those created by aging and drinking red wine, coffee and tea.

An important deliberation before you undergo teeth whitening is whether you have had a crown or false tooth fitted to go with your old discoloured teeth. If you do have such a replacement, the colour will be inherent in the fabric of the substitute. Therefore, bleaching will have no effect and that implant might stick out like a sore thumb.

Many people experience greater sensitivity of the teeth to hot and cold for between one and four days after treatment. So if you need to apply the gel twice a week, you will never get over the discomfort.

In general, you have to be wary of claims from manufacturers, vendors and appliers of teeth whitening products. Some countries have more severe laws than others, so you should be conscious of the laws in your country and report any transgressions, because too many lies have been told. In most countries. The situation has been has been cleared up a lot, but not entirely.

At the end of the day, if you are interested in teeth whitening, the old expression, ‘Buyer Beware!’ is still worth bearing in mind. Having said that, there are some great teeth whitening treatments out there.
