Do you feel like you have to hide your smile? It is a shame if you do. Your smile is your key into almost any social situation. But if you can’t show your smile, you may find yourself stuck to the wall.

It’s undeniable: People who smile more often are more approachable and just generally more successful. But not everybody feels secure behind their smile. If that is the case for you, then you may need to consider a smile makeover.

One of your issues may be teeth color. If you smoke or drink a fair amount of coffee, tea or red wine, you may find your pearly whites are little closer to tan. If that’s the case, teeth whitening may be your savior.

Other possible solutions can include anything from the in-and-out cosmetic procedures, such as the teeth whitening types, to surgical procedures. Everything from braces for correcting misaligned teeth to caps for fixing chipped teeth should be considered. Some of these options may take some time or even an investment of cash, but all are definitely worth the investment.

Some people’s problems go well beyond what those simple procedures can handle, though. Some people need to go all out in order to repair their mouths.

What lies beyond the teeth are the gums, and those can be reformatted as well. For example, laser technology can be employed to recontour the basic shape of the gums. Some dentists even offer the service of gum removal for those who believe they have too much in that area.

Your smile isn’t just an issue of vanity, by the way. Your looks are important to the way people relate to you to your own sense of self-confidence. An investment in your smile is an investment in yourself.

You can consider an investment in dental improvement measures, a self improvement effort. Anecdotal evidence suggests that a rotten smile can even weigh you down in job interviews. That’s not something to take lightly. It’s something to consider.

Diet, Water, And Tongue Scraper To Eliminate Halitosis

July 25th, 2010 Maureen Donnelly No comments

Who doesn’t want fresh breath? Bad breath is simply a turn off, and probably something that turns you off if you come across someone else with halitosis. No one wants to be that person with bad breath, but some of us were simply born with it.

I’m going to share a few proven tips with you that will absolutely help you in your efforts to fight off bad breath. Try these things out (you’ll have to be disciplined) and I can promise you you’ll see an improvement in your situation.

My first piece of advice is to watch (and possibly change) what you eat. If you’re eating foods with a lot of sugars, milky foods, or a lot of red meat, any one of these things could be making your situation worse. These are foods that are conducive to bacteria growth in your mouth, and that’s the cause of bad breath. Try cutting down on those and eating more things like fruit.

Another thing you’ll want to do is to make sure that you floss when you eat red meat. The food that gets stuck in your teeth can be responsible for heavy odors, and flossing will rid your mouth of those odors.

Drink a lot of water too. Drinking water helps to prevent mouth dryness. Bacteria thrive in a dry mouth and end up growing far more easily when your mouth is dry.

Keep your mouth flush with water, which will help to drown out the bacteria responsible for bad odors.

The last thing I would recommend doing is to buy a tongue scraper. By using one once or twice per day, you’ll be removing the bacteria from your tongue. This is usually the root of bad breath and it can easily be managed.

Anyway, I hope these are tips that you’ll take seriously and follow if you’re serious about doing something about your halitosis. They definitely work, and the great news is that bad breath can easily be dealt with if it’s something you’d like to handle.

Common Teeth Whitening Treatments

July 10th, 2010 Owen Jones No comments

As everybody desires to be a celebrity these days and looking good has become influential in obtaining a good job, teeth whitening has become a popular fad. In order to obtain whiter teeth, some people have turned to using whitening products.

Bleaching is far cheaper than other means of whitening and can be done at home with cheap over-the-counter products or even home-made treatments. Without whitening of some kind everyone’s teeth would discolour over time.

The worst items in common use that are responsible for teeth discolouration are cigarettes, coffee, tea and red wine. Brushing will get rid of some staining, but is not really completely effective unless the tooth paste is particularly abrasive, which is not a good idea because that will ultimately remove the enamel which does such a good job of protecting our teeth from infection and cavities.

There are lots of different teeth whitening systems on the market and some have advantages over others. Some are very strong and should only be applied under supervision. In other cases the dentist will need to apply some sort of protective coating to your gums so that they are not damaged by the chemicals in the gel.

The whitening agent is then applied to the teeth by means of a tray. You are in essence dipping your teeth into a bath of bleach which you carry about in your mouth. Therefore the tray has to fit your mouth, if it is going to be comfortable. There are two types of trays: the standard, one size fits all and the custom-made, which is moulded to fit your mouth by a dentist.

Sometimes these trays are used solely in the dental surgery and others are meant to be taken home for use there. The active component in the whitening gels is usually either carbamide peroxide or hydrogen peroxide. This kind of course of treatment normally takes three to four weeks.

There is also a whitening gel that you paint onto your teeth before you go to bed and leave on all night while you sleep. This gel should not be used more than once a week, but the results are quite good.

Another choice is so-called laser whitening. It is essentially a misnomer because the strong light used to ‘activate’ the whitening gel is not a laser at all. It is only named that because it sounds more hi-tech than ’strong light’. Hi-tech can be sold for more money than low-tech. In fact, many people are turning away from laser whitening, because it is actually unnecessary to have to ‘activate’ the product with light. It is only intended to prevent people from using the gel at home.

This form of treatment is the fastest because the products used are more highly concentrated than those sold for home use. This is reasonable, because people could hurt themselves at home with powerful products if they have not been trained to use them.

The results of a decent professional teeth bleaching procedure should last for about three years, whereas home treatments are on-going – you have to bleach every week in order to preserve the whiteness. However, all teeth whitening systems must ultimately fail, unless you stop smoking or and drinking red wine, coffee and strong black tea.

Making A Beautiful Smile Using Invisalign Retainers

July 10th, 2010 Chris Channing No comments

Invisalign retainers have become popular among kids and adults alike. The retainers are exceptional at fixing common oral problems and come at an affordable price- there’s not much more to want! Dentists everywhere are supporting this new trend as a replacement for regular braces.

Gaps in between teeth in adults can be embarrassing. It’s natural for a child to have gaps since their teeth are still coming in. If all of your adult teeth have surfaced and some spaces are giving you an awkward smile, feel better in knowing that Invisalign can fix this problem with ease. Wide spaces and short gaps alike seem to take no time at all in fixing.

Crowded teeth can look just as bad. A mouth full of teeth looks good when everything is in great shape, but that is seldom the case when there is crowding. Crowding can push teeth out of line in a matter of weeks or days. Invisalign retainers will retain the perfect shape forever, so long at the retainers are worn at night on a very strict and consistent schedule.

Bad genes can result in a case of overbite. The overbite of an individual can interfere with eating and drinking, cause certain oral problems, and of course doesn’t look so great. Overbite problems can be fixed, even if severe, by a certified Invisalign practitioner. The Invisalign retainers will carefully reshape the teeth in order to align them, but only a little bit at a time so that the healing process does not inflict pain or further problems for the patient.

When the jaw is misaligned to the point where the bottom jaw extends passed the top, this is called an underbite. The underbite is much like the overbite- unsightly and slightly harder to fix. Invisalign retainers will still fix the problem through several treatments. This condition is sometimes confused when you are missing teeth. In that case, you may also consider a replacement.

Sometimes the teeth can be so mangled that they form something known as the crossbite. A crossbite can take a long time to fix if it is severe, since both the upper and lower jaw will need to be transformed. A crossbite doesn’t necessarily look bad in a cosmetic stance, but it does have odds in causing dental problems. As a result, even if you can get by with a crossbite, it is better to have a dentist fix it. It’s better to get it fixed with Invisalign than to be sorry several years down the road when you have an oral disease or complication.

Final Thoughts

Never underestimate the power of technology! Invisalign retainers have proved that they can fix tough problems in oral hygiene time and time again. If you are interested in Invisalign retainers, start looking at local dentists that are certified to take impressions and make retainers.

A Review Of BreathRX

July 1st, 2010 Hal Missant No comments

There’s a good chance that you’ve seen BreathRX when browsing the dental section of your local pharmacy. I’d personally been wondering about it for a while, until one day I was curious enough to see how effective it’d actually be.

I always saw BreathRX as a bit pricey and was reluctant to try it out. One day, frustrated with the fact that it seemed like my most recent toothpaste/mouthwash combo wasn’t doing enough, I decided to buy some BreathRX.

BreathRX works because of some unique technology that they claim both kills the bad breath bacteria, and then neutralizes the mouth. The combination of some antibacterial oils (these kill the germs on your tongue that are responsible for bad breath) and some zinc, which balances out the state of the mouth, works effectively to kill bad breath, according to the company.

Depending on how extensive you’d like to be with respect to your fight against bad breath, there are a number of different BreathRX products that you may be able to purchase. On a basic level, there’s toothpaste and mouthwash, but there are also tongue scrapers, tongue sprays, gum balls, mints, and more.

I don’t know what you normally use in your fight against bad breath, but there’s a good chance that BreathRX will have all of the things you normally use. If you’re a little hesitant to spend too much at once, you might want to look into a starter kit, many of which are sold online. These include a bunch of different things in one package.

All that I can say is I haven’t bought any other brand since making the switch to the BreathRX system. All I use is the toothpaste and the mouthwash as I find this more than enough, but I’ve read online that the other products do their jobs as well. It’s all a matter of what you need.

Instead of buying this at your local pharmacy, I’d probably look for a good deal online. There are tons of them out there, and you’ll get a lot more for your money than you will in local stores.

Whether you should choose to use this product or not, I wish you luck. BreathRX definitely gets my highest marks.
